After you have created an application, you will need to generate keys. To do this, go to the API Store (api.byu.edu/store), click on the the "My Subscriptions" tab at the top of the page, select the application you just created from the drop-down list (underneath the heading "Applications with Subscriptions"), and then click "Generate keys." You will need to generate Sandbox and Production keys separately.
For more detailed instructions, see the step-by-step guide below.
- Click on the "My Subscriptions" tab (top middle).
- Keys are specific to each application. Select the desired application from the drop-down list (underneath where it says "Applications With Subscriptions").
- Push the blue button, "Generate Keys." Note that there are two "Generate Keys" buttons–one for Production keys, and one for Sandbox keys. In most cases, you will want to generate both.
- After pushing "Generate Keys," you will be give a unique Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, and Access Token.
Note: The Consumer Key and Consumer Secret will remain constant for this application. The Access Token, however, is only valid for an hour. Once your Access Token expires, you will have to return to this page and push "Re-generate." Also, the Access Token shown here is only a "client credential" grant type token. More information on that here.
